Cost of installing a driveway into nightmare front garden!!

Hi folks,

Wondered if anyone could give me any advice or has any experience on creating a driveway on a sloped front garden?

It's presently three tiers and hideous! I've got permission from the council to drop the curb, but wanted to see if anyone had any ideas about what the cost might be? Should I have a new retaining wall built and create a driveway right at the front of the garden? Or could I make it all into one big sloping drive?

A lot of neighbours have had it done one way or another, but cost is a key factor for me (plus I would prefer one big driveway!). I have a picture, but it won't let me upload as I'm a new user!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

The area and type of surface will affect the price tremendously, along with the amount of work required to make the sloped area usable for parking.
Have you also investigated the possible need for planning permission?
    From http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/permission/commonprojects/pavingfrontgarden/:
Specific rules apply for householders wanting to pave over their front gardens.

You will not need planning permission if a new or replacement driveway of any size uses permeable (or porous) surfacing which allows water to drain through, such as gravel, permeable concrete block paving or porous asphalt, or if the rainwater is directed to a lawn or border to drain naturally.

If the surface to be covered is more than five square metres planning permission will be needed for laying traditional, impermeable driveways that do not provide for the water to run to a permeable area.

Consider gravel (probably cheapest and permeable), tarmac (will need drainage), or block paving (will need drainage unless expensive permeable ones are used). You'll need some sort of hardcore as well, so excavation costs will come into it.
Talk to some neighbours who've had it done and see what they did and who they used.
I assume you're in England and believe the legislation regarding planning permission came into effect in 2008, so try to talk to someone who has had it done since then.
