current best buys for printer/scanner/copier etc

any advice on current best buys for a printer? in my attempt to stop procrastinating, i agreed to a dell printer, scanner and pcopier when i got a new computer. i'm just about to start three year training where i need to use printer a lot, so want a cheap one to run (so will be ditching dell). is general consensus still that canon the best deals for a printer that's cheap to run (i seriously need to save money when i start this training). any advice on current deals or models that are good buys?
thanks for any advice

Currys have an Epson dx4450 for £40 (bought one myself, very pleased with it), also saw a canon advertised in the Argos window for £50 (didn't get model number) - suspect either would be a great buy - both have a track record for good scanners and printers.

Check out the cartridge-floggers first - have seen Epson for £3 a cart (dx4450 takes 4), and other posts one here for relatively cheap canon carts.

Is the Dell a rebadged Lexmark - they're well known for being expensive to run (Epson, Canon, Brother, HP all likely to be cheaper)

Just brought myself the Canon MP460 from Argos - they`ve price cut it from £90 to £50 - its an all in one ( print / scan / copier ) and seems fine.

Cartridges are a lot cheaper than Lexmark too!!!:j

thank you both. will check these out. haven't got a clue if it's rebadged lexmark... just could kick myself for saying 'yes' to the salesperson when i ordered my pc. in my haste to stop procrastinating, i didn't do my homework.. and it's way too expensive for the kind of stuff i will need in the next three years.. must check out if you can sell them on ebay, but i suspect you can't give em away really. fine for light user, but i'm not gonna be a light user soon... thanks so much for the help. so hard to know where to turn with any gadgets these days there is so much choice its enough to send all us procrastintors back to bed...

Get a Brother Scanner / Printer avoid the new Canon and Epsons, they all take expensive special cartridges, you can get replacement copy Brother Cartridges for £2.00 each delivered and they last for ages.

HP and Lexmark cartridges usually cost as much as the actual printer.

i have a brother all in one too when staples did that fathers day special last year. The cartridges are cheap, not OE ones but picked up 12 for about £20.

Hmmm, I was going to spend more than that to get something that lasted. Would you wise people say that's a good idea?

i bought the canon printer just cus i didn't want to miss the offer... but it looks like the cartridges are expensive and maybe not even available cheaply ... couldnt find any in local tesco etc...
is the epson similar? i have friends who pick up cartridges for couple of quid and never worry about costs, which sounds ideal.
will keep checking ... will check out the epson deal too. can always get money back on the canon, i'm not opening it till i know the price of the ink!! learned my lesson with dell...
    cheers all
