Hi everyone,
Just wanted to get some advice because I just got my landline phone bill from Talk Talk and got a shock! I've been charged £9.72 for a 2 minute call to BT 118500, and £6.48 for a 1 minute call to the same number. I know directory enquiries calls aren't cheap, but that is ridiculous!! Surely that's not right?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

This is the database, compiled by BT from information sent to them by all providers, that the 118 rip-off merchants use. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

did you let them "connect the call" ?
that costs more as as well , always dial direct (after looking up the number on the internet...why does anyone still call these numbers ?? )Ex forum ambassador

No, I didn't let them connect the call, I thought that would be the expensive bit! I would usually look the number up on the internet but my connection was down0

From 1 July 2015 the cost of calling 118 numbers will become much clearer.
DQ providers will no longer quote the regulated, capped and non-typical cost of calling their number from a BT landline. Instead, they will declare their share of the call cost, and this will be known as the Service Charge. This will make it much easier to compare DQ providers.
Landline and mobile providers will no longer state the total cost of the call when made from their network, buried in a price guide running to a hundred pages or more. Instead they will each declare a single headline Access Charge covering all 084, 087, 09 and 118 numbers.
Add the Access Charge and the Service Charge together to find the total call cost.
The cost of calling from non-BT landlines is likely to fall.
The cost of calling from mobiles is likely to plummet.
For example...
A call which currently costs £1 per minute from a BT landline might cost £1.50 per minute from a rival landline and £4 per minute from a mobile phone.
From 1 July 2015 the call costs may be...
BT: 10p per minute Access Charge plus £1 per minute Service Charge.
Rival landline: 15p per minute Access Charge plus £1 per minute Service Charge.
Mobile network: 35p per minute Access Charge plus £1 per minute Service Charge.0 -
