I recently bought a new multi-function printer, so I put the old inkjet one on ebay. There was nothing wrong with the old one, and it had been in working use as my main printer till I upgraded as I needed to be able to fax things.
A new ebayer with no feedback bought it. I was a bit wary but they did pay straight away with PayPal, so I sent the printer to them.
The immediately phoned me up and said it wasn't compatible with their operating system. They claimed the software on the CD-ROM doesn't run on Windows XP. I disputed that, as I've been using it fine on XP. I told them if they couldn't get the CD to work, try visiting the Epson site and you can download the software/drivers from there. They then left me good feedback, so I assumed all was ok.
I got another phone call last night and the claim it will not print properly. The say that the red comes out as green. I was printing a red client logo on paperwork before I sold it, so red was working fine then. I suggested that ink may have dried on the printheads while it was not in use and during transit. I said to try dipping a cotton bud in nail polish remover and cleaning the heads manually.
I've been out this afternoon and found a message on the answerphone. They want a full refund of all costs, but did not mention returning the printer to me.
What should I do?
As far as I am concerned, it was working when I sold it, and I don't know if it's been damaged in transit, damaged by them, or they have just decided it isn't suitable and they no longer want it.
Help appreciated.

I wouldn't refund, as you tested it before sending. Sounds to me like the buyer is trying it on. The fact that they first tried getting a refund from you by saying the printer was not compatible with their OS, then changed their story really makes it sound like they just changed their minds and are now trying anything to get a refund out of you. Take the negative feedback hit and move on. You can easily add a comment to explain your side of things, and people are less likely to believe a 0 rated buyer over a seller with a lot of good feedback. In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?

Explain to them that you tested it and it was in full working order before you sold it.
They were obviously happy with it when you sold it to them, as they've already left you positive feedback.
Sounds to me like one of the cartridge colours has started to run out and they're trying it on.
As long as you advertised it as used, I don't think they have much of a case. If I bought a second hand printer I wouldn't expect to get full catridges unless it said so in the auction. I'd tell them sorry, but they should go and buy some ink.
You already have positive feedback for the item so they can't do much about it.0 -
Yip, if you are sure it is fine stick to your guns. It just sounds to me like they are inexperienced with printers. You have done everything fine, and been very helpful
, so no refund . Once they get new ink it will prob be ok. The only think to watch out for as they paid by payapl they might try a chargeback ( see other threads about this ) But I doubt they will know how to.
Some people just make me want to despair, are you going to get email when they run out of paper.......0 -
As far as i am concerned Feedback means the end of the transaction.
I wouldnt refund them at all.
I cant see paypall letting them do a charge back as they have recieved the printer and left possy feedback
Sound to me like they are trying it on i wouldnt be surprised if they ask you to pay for new cartridges
R.I.P Sam, still in my heart0 -
i would not give a refund, especially as they have little or no feedback.
the printer was in working order before it was sent and i assume was well packed so it is unlikely to have had problems in transit.
the buyer left good feedback, which is an odd thing to do if they have a problem.
sad as it is somone with a lack of feedback can never be fully trusted, there are too many people out there trying it on.'What's poignancy grandad?'
