    Morning all,

This is going to be the first day of getting back to old style basics. I grew up in an old style home so I just need to remember the routines that Mum had!

Today, I need to clean upstairs which should not take long as it is only the one bathroom and two bedrooms. I will be using up all the bought cleaners I have first and then start using more old style cleaning ingredients. I will need to find a source of larger sized white vinegar, any ideas?

Then, I need to start using up the meat that is in the freezer. Tonight will be something with rice as I am now out of potatoes and I have no plans to go food shopping.

I am particularly old style as I no longer have a vacuum, so am using a dustpan and brush. I will be getting a vacuum, just trying to decide which model.

Elona, I hope your dd is doing better.
    Tru, scampi sounds adorable.
Dumpling, did you manage to get out and sit in the park?

It is time I get a move on, so take care all.

I am so glad that even though it felt like a long visit to Jimmy's that DH was responding well.

After a long day DD was admitted to hospital for tests etc last night and will be there for a while. Her sister texted her this morning and she seems more settled and asked us to bring a few things tonight.
I put her clothes that were all over the floor in the washing machine and will have to look out more clothes etc later but just feel too wiped out to do much.

Made DH breakfast and have last night's veggie mince to have with mash for lunch. Middle DD will drive us to hospital tonight so will cook something for the three of us but no idea what.

    Hugs to all

  • Elona you must be made of stern stuff having to cope with so much, at least with dd being in hospital hopefully they will get to the bottom of the problem. I do hope it is sorted and she is well in time for your Blessing and renewal of vows.

I hope DH is still putting on weight and improving generally

    Much love to you all

    Afternoon all,

thinking of your DD Elona I hope her recovery is a swift one. Hugs for you too.

Bit of a late start for me today but I'm catching up now.:D

I had a funny conversation via message this morning. My daughter in SA sent me a message asking me if I knew anyone with a car seat for Soldier when they come over in May. They are borrowing my daughters car whilst they are on honeymoon but they were a bit unsure about the car seat regulations. I asked her about the regulations over there in SA. Apparently they have car seats because of the babies and the babies safety always comes first but generally people don't bother with car seats for children over there. Apparently this is the favoured seating position for the children over there.

So I then asked her whether they have minibuses over there and she sent me this recent news cutting.

    Shouldn't laugh really should I but I couldn't help it.:rotfl:
That's nothing she said, if you come to the beach on Saturday mornings you see this..... and she sent me a picture of a load of Zulu women in ceremonial dress doing a war dance topless. Hence to say I nearly choked on my coffee.

Well the weather forecast said wall to wall sunshine. So I got two loads of washing out on the line this morning plus the dishwasher was on and left just after 9.30amn for Newcastle. Got into Newcastle and it was pretty overcast. Drove back home and it's cloud but allot of sunshine

Got all the things on my shopping list done though :T went into Wilko's in Newcastle looking for a pretty basic plastic chopping board. The wooden one in the kitchen is not great for onions and garlic. Even when washed and scrubbed it still has the odor of them. Found a single stack of pretty useless looking plastic chopping boards that were flimsy for £2.00. Left said shop.

Went to Lakeland - that expensive shop but found exactly what I was looking for; a substantial thick plastic chopping board that can be well washed, dishwasher if needs be, and it will take a fair bit of chopping. Okay it was £7.95 and I baulked a bit at that, but the fact is that wooden chopping board gets used every day and it really has been a damn good servant so on the basis that this will work just as hard for the next few years I bit the bullet and bought it.

Washing is nearly dry on the line, just had a cup of tea, catch up in here with you lovelies :D and I shall walk the woofalo in a bit!

    Afternoon all,

Thanks to those of you that gave me the shoe links and ideas. I will look into them.

I've had a busy day so far. Work then up the woods to help with the Forest School. It was the children's go at firelighting today and so I smell even more of Smokey Bacon crisps than ususal!! Then it was my lunch stint.
I have decided to try and make a sausage pie thingy for dinner tonight.

    Have a good evening :)
  • Good Afternoon everyone, it's been a lovely sunny day here and warm enough to shed a layer and walk just in a light fleece, all the gardens are full of spring bulbs and the forsythia and magnolias are blooming well, so much more cheerful than winter twigs!

I went into town on the bus this morning and picked up some groceries and found a lovely little wooden barn with some wooden animals in a charity shop, just right to go into the toybox here for Zebra and a lovely book by Jacqui Wood called Cooking through the Ages which has recipes from the stone age to post war, fascinating!!!

Have just been for a lovely long walk with Docky and Charlie the retreiver and his mum and am sitting here with a nice cuppa, bliss!!!

Have a nice evening everyone, Lyn xxx.

    Evening all,

Very tired today, went to knitting group, bought a birthday present and had electrolysis on my way home. Was really pleasant this morning weatherwise, has got colder and windy since and we are promised rain for later.

Have been watching coverage of the aircrash in the Alps.....horrendous for the families of those on board.

Judi....when I had my eldest children a car seat had a metal bar surrounding the child...I hate to think what would have happened in a crash!

Mossy has just been out for a run and it is raining heavily, so kit chen floor has had to be mopped for the second time today.

My brain seems to have turned to cheese today, so I will just wish everyone a quiet and peaceful evening.

    Marie
