New kitchen - installation cost?

Options
Hello all, have been planning a new kitchen for my house. I have used Ikea's planner just to get a good idea of what I want and what works. I have decided what cupbords, work surfaces etc I want however I was just wondering what I should expext regarding installation costs? My kitchen is small 3m x 3m and I am basically having an L shape worksurface with cupboards or my aplliances beneath and 4 wall mounted cupboards.
Does anyone have any ideas? I have a few local kitchen fitters coming around this week and want to have an idea about what to expect before they make their quotes.

Thank you all.
Chris

    :eek::eek:

Wow that's excessive!!! You can get some really good kitchen fitters from gumtree.com

I got my kitchen fitted a few weeks ago and got a polish kitchen fitter from there. He was excellent. He came with a friend of his on saturday and by sunday evening they'd completed my kitchen. They charged £400 for fitting 8 units, all our appliances , two worktops and a breakfast bar which had to be cut to shape!!! We got them to do some extra work and gave them an extra £100 for it. They worked flat out, were really polite and very professional.

If I were you, I'd get around 3 quotes from different fitters and then take it from there. Oh yes, and another thing, don't forget to haggle ;).

    Good luck
  • Hi ni4abargain

Glad you're looking at IKEA - I'm a fan of their kitchens. Don't forget to apply instore for their storecard (assuming you'll pay it off in full) they usually have 5 or 10% off first order, so if you've other stuff to buy, do the shop all in one go. You can return for a credit anything you dont use!

Anyway, to answer your Q, we had £1200 of IKEA kitchen & to fit the MFI equivelent (we got them to check & plan our design) would have been around £1400 + electric/gas appliance fitting - another £175ish.

We got independent & £800 was about it!

I agree with this quote as we paid £1000 for our kitchen to be fitted, and it was roughly the same size as yours. Our fitters came from the same company we bought our kitchen from so there was peace of mind.

Also, I agree with ni4abargin as well. you can get this done cheaper but i have heard of too many horrer stories with cowboy fitters turning your dream kitchen into your biggest nightmare from hell!!

If you go for the cheaper option do check there work at every stage and do not let them get too far ahead. Check yourself that the surfaces are level , door closures are all the same level, no unsightly gaps, all fittings are secure and DO NOT PAY UP FRONT UNTIL YOU ARE SATISFIED WITH THEIR WORK.

  • anybody can recommand a kitchen fitter/company covering west London .. We're pretty desperate to have it done first thing once we move in. Just too many things to deal with, and we're FTB, have no experience/idea how to deal with them.. worried that we're being ripped off. ?

    Any advice appreciated.

I would like to have some free standing units from ikea and I just had a quick thought...would it be possible to fit the kitchen myself ? Does the person who will install the washing machine and the the oven and of course the cooker needs to corgi registered?

They only need to be corgi registered if you are dealing with Gas

when my kitchen was delivered I was talking to the deliveryguys while we were having a cup of tea my wife made for us and I got around to mentioning that I was fitting it myself and not the companies fitters, he said, if you can do it, it's the cheapest and possibly the best way, if you can't, don't get whoever you are buying the kitchen from as they charge these guys around a 1/3 in commision and so they work out pretty expensive compared to a firm not in bed so to speak with the kitchen suppler
