Council Parking Fine - Single Yellow

Hi All
Just some advice really. I went to Sheffield City Centre today for an interview. I got to town and realised i'd left my wallet on the kitchen side, so went to look for somewhere to park down a backstreet.
I parked in a street I knew of, off the road next to a wall. The wall wasn't on a pavement, but I was on the land next to the wall.
I came back after my interview to a parking ticket saying I had "Parked in a restricted street during prescribed hours". I guess they mean the single yellow line.
I just wanted to check with you good people whether this is enforceable.
I took photos to show how I was parked.

The ground I am on isn't very clear, but it wasn't a pavement it was just some rough ground part of which was tarmacced.
I wanted to at least put in an appeal.
Any advice would be welcome.
Thanks

The single yellow line applies right up to the nearest boundary - in this case the wall.
