how on earth did i get accepted for this contract?!

im in total shock!

first off i have a very bad credit history 5 defaults (3/5 PAID) and a CCJ (unpaided) but all are over 3 years old since then my credit history has been perfect for the last 3 years, ive made 17 searches in the last 6 months mainly for credit cards and shopping catologues to try and build my credit back up again

i currently have a vanquis (£250 credit limit with 14months payment history credit limit never raised even though never missed a payment), capital one secured card (£200 credit limit 2 months payment history) and just got accepted for a barclaycard inital £150 limit)

i have 3 catologue accounts freemans £200 credit limit, look again £400 credit limit both 10 months payment history and jd williams £600 credit limit 5 months payment history

got a few other accounts mainly virgin media and 3 bank accounts

been on electoral role for 3 years lived at current property for 3years 10months

every account has been well run for the last 3 years

anyway i was browsing the carphone warehouse website looking for a new pay as you go phone and i thought sod it il try my luck and applied for a Samsung Galaxy S6 on EE and recieved a decline email within a few hours which i knew was gonna happen!
anyway had a phone call today from carphone warehouse asking about the contract i applied for and told me it declined which i already knew but then he asked if i wanted to try another network? so i said yeh ok then expecting it to decline instantly! he said it would take 30-45min for the full credit check to be completed and he would ring me back, 1 hour later he called me back and shocked me by saying "congratulations you have been accepted by o2 and now you can choose any tarriff you like and your phone will be delivered tomorrow morning" I WAS SPEECHLESS! GOB SMACKED! one of my defaults was from o2 but has been paid and its just over 3 years old! when i started my credit building jorney just a year ago i applied for a sim only contract from o2 and instant decline!
just goes to show there can be light at the end of the dark dark tunnel! ive certainly learned my lesson and im so happy ive been given a second chance

Mobile phone contracts have a very low threshold for acceptance compared to other credit products so you have lucked out, particularly as you have a previous default with them.
    £1000 Emergency fund No90 £1000/1000
    LBM 28/1/15 total debt - [STRIKE]£23,410[/STRIKE] 24/3/16 total debt - £7,298

your cards and catalogues collection seem a bit manic
presumably you are paying them off in full each month?

why ever are you pleased to get an expensive phone contract?

why do you pleased to get 'second' chance : is that a second chance to get into debt and pay lots of interest?

    clear all your debts
use a couple of CC regularly and pay in full each month
    save for this you want

    Have you learnt your lesson?

You bought an extremely high price phone on impulse. That doesn't sound to me like someone who is completely disciplined when it comes to their finances...

Applying for a ridiculously expensive mobile phone contract definitely sounds like the work of someone who's learnt their lesson, likes.

to try and build my credit back up again

Far simpler ways of achieving the same objective. Saving rather spending money being one.
