if somebody uses them, no insurance and you're liable for the cost.0

who do have your home contents insurance with?
there may be a section under the policy which provides cover for fraudulent use of credit cards however the limits are usually between £350 and £1000.
It will also be a condition that the card conditions are complied with (i.e not keeping your pin number with the card, not leaving your card unattended anywhere)0 -

I was under the impression that as long as you had safeguarded your PIN etc you are refunded less around £50?0 -
There are two companies in the UK who provide specialist cover, your bank will use one of them. The price is usually the same whichever you use anyway. The only difference in price is whether you use the basic cover or the plus cover, which will have more benefits, like covering your locks & keys. It start at £20 a year for a family to cover all cards. Some banks can charge you a liability if your cards are mis-used.0
