But with less than 80k milage, I saw a few on ebay and I have budget of £4000. How long would you expect them to last? I wouldn't expect them to last another 10 years of course but hopefully 3-4 years and I will use it everyday

I've got a 10.5 year old Berlingo, with 80k on it. Over the past year it's got to the point when I've had to spend some big money on it. If I can get it through one more MOT, I'll throw it away next summer and be happy that I got my moneys worth. That said it's not worth anywhere near £4k.
It was an ex-Forestry Commision van, so whilst well serviced it had had a hard life, and the bits that failed were the bits that had suffered the abuse.

Like all 2nd hand vehicles, you've just got to buy the best you can and hope for some luck. Something well serviced that's only been used to take some dogs to Crufts should be perfect!

Van prices are at an all time high. Gone are the days of cheap vans being any good

    what makes you say that?
  • Can I hijack this thread? Is it worth thinking of buying a decent 2nd hand van in Europe now that the Euro is low? I have a budget of €3000 (I actually have that in cash, silly me!).

For a start i would wonder why a 10 year old van only had 80k on the clock.

How many miles will you be covering a week/year?

Buy a van in europe but check the specs match the UK often they have lowered powered engines etc. Check the insurance and see how much extra they will charge for an imported vehicle.

Will it be a LHD model? What fun pulling out of an angled junction not being able to see more than a few feet.

My 15 year-old Astravan only has 33,000 on it, because I don't drive it far. Any offers?

Low mileage doesn't mean a good vehicle, they need to be run regularly to keep them from clogging up.

There's an element of truth, but it sounds like a dodgy dealer's argument.
