DON't TOUCH THIS WITH A BARGEPOLE

He only takes cheques, is sending the phone by 1st class mail so no cover if it gets lost and is offering to deal off ebay, which means they will end up NARUd pretty quickly.

The lack of paypal and the fact he has only sold very cheap items previously leads me to believe this is either a hijacked account or a deliberate scam.

I think a lot of people are about to lose a lot of money. The thing to ask yourself if you are not sure is would you give a cheque, or cash, to a bloke in the pub who you don't know and who says he has been successfully selling bars of soap for weeks without complaint?

    I think not.

A very poor example of how to sell using a hijacked account..... And one that didn't last too long..... Thankfully. With the hijacker unable to change the e-mail address, All "Ask Seller A Question" emails, such as, "Have you checked what you are selling lately?"..... went to the genuine ID owner. ;)

    Gosh, that did go quickly!

I sent in fraud reports but it looks like others got there way before me.

I saw an item yesterday which was just closing and although it had Motorola D500 in the title, the item description said it was one of those E-books on how to buy things cheaper at Police Auctions, etc. The sad thing is, two newbie buyers were fighting over it, obviously without reading the item and it was up to £140. Seller had lots of good previous feedback too.

    What can you do?

    What can you do?

You can always try reporting the auctions to ebay, it worked for the one mentioned at the start of this thread.

Really though, you can't protect buyers who don't read the auctions properly some people seem to throw all caution away when they get onto ebay. The seller who sparked off this thread originally was so obviously 'bad' yet he had dozens of bids on his items. All those people would have sent off cheques and basically said goodbye to their money, I'm glad that set of auctions was closed in time.
