This site keeps logging me out...

Options
Can you help please? Everytime i refresh the page/click to view a thread the connection times out and then i get logged out. Its been happening for a few weeks now. It started when nowhere (ebay/here/yahoo/natwest) would let me log on at all... i would enter my details then it would go back a page. This was fixed using the auto fill tab in the internet options part on windows. But now this site is forever logging me out, even if i am just reading a thread that has taken me longer than 20min. No other site does this and my emails (yahoo) are fine to leave for over 1 hour and refresh and all is fine. At the momment i am having to type a reply and copy it before submitting incase it logs me out :o...

Is there a solution... i am runing firefox on windows xp... avg, a squared and spybot all came back clear. I am also running ad ware and spyblaster.

Could be a problem with corrupted Cookies & Internet Cache? Try this....

Firefox > Tools > Options > Privacy tab > Show Cookies. Scroll through the list & 'Remove' all cookies to do with MSE, including the MSE-forum ones (if they appear separately).

On the same Privacy tab, under Private Data click on Settings & see put a tick in the 'Cache' box (& anything else that you require). Exit this applet & click 'Clear Now' *.

Shutdown & restart FF, then login as usual & see how it goes. G

    * In the future, you can easily clear your Cache (& all selected items) by selecting Tools > 'Clear Private Data...'.
  • thanks goofy, that worked for ten minutes but then a page took too long to load again and it signed me out :o could it be my connection

No, it can't be your connection (or lack of it) - it shouldn't sign you out anyway.

To rule out FF, try an alternative browser. If you'd like to avoid IE, there's Opera & Safari. G

Uninstall & reinstall FF - may cure it. Sorry, forgot to suggest that!

The smiley program you linked to seems safe enough.

You could also keep a few smiley pages of other forums open in other tabs & copy+paste from them*.

    For example - the Guru3D, Take-That (steady now postingalwaysposting† :p) & ScriptureForums smiley lists. G

ROFL from the lattermost: rofl.gif - wow can you beat that for speed , G

*To be able to do this, you'll need to enable 'Enhanced Interface...' in Edit Options, under 'Miscellaneous Options' at the bottom.
†Assuming you're an impressionable young woman - forgive me if you aren't

Another reason could be that you haven't ticked the 'Remember me' box on the sign-in screen
