I see on another thread that the red raid spray is recommended for getting rid of these. It worked well for me in the bathroom but can anyone tell me if it's ok to spray on the carpet around the skirting board in the living room?0

Not seen any since using cinnamon, or it could have been the spider I introduced.
The sachet idea sounds good for permanent fix.
Talcum powder works on ants so maybe silverfish too.

No need to panic they are not harmful to health. I would not use any chemicals just vacuum all the little crevices and as these little critters can be a sign that you have an unwanted damp issue, make sure you don't have any hidden leaks.
If you look at pest control sites they will show you that they can damage books and fabrics, but if you keep your valuable first editions in the sort of conditions silverfish like they are going to worth BA quite quickly anyway.0 -
I used to have to try to find them in my bed before I got into it in the 1970s. My parents had them (recently) in their bathroom, you'd be sitting on the loo and see them round by your feet.
Horrid things....0 -

I'm not sure that what you have seen are silverfish, used to get quite a few in my parents house but never in the beds, and they hate light so you don't normally have them running round your feet if you have the lights on.0 -
