Embarrassment

My application for the Aqua card was declined :(

I'm a home owner, 10+ years at the same address, on the electoral register, average credit limit of my existing cards 15k, no missed payments.

Wonder why?

Do you really mean average? How many cards do you have?
This might answer the question, but possibly you just aren't the type of customer they want.

I have about 10 credit cards for different purposes.

Hmm I knew that they could reject people with a bad credit history, but I did know that they also could reject people with an excellent credit history. Then, this card should be removed from the "Travel Credit Cards".
  • TEN?! cards seems extreme, though I guess they figure you manage them too well, so they won't make much interest out of you..
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

10*£15K=£150K - this is your available credit. Your income has to be really big then for getting even more unsecured credit. For average income people often start facing problems when (available credit)/(income) ratio reaches 50%.
Also, for a high earner (and spender) Aqua is likely to be no good as it is notorious for pathetic credit limits. Why not Halifax Clarity that, although not giving cashback, unlike Aqua doesn't charge for ATM withdrawals?

Why? People with 'bad' history travel too, and not all high-earners get rejected. Aqua make no secret from what customers they aim to. Just google for 'aqua card'.

Obviously, credit card companies are in it to make profit. Maybe they don't see you as a potentially profitable customer.

Or perhaps they have hit their quota for new accounts, so are declining lots of applications.

In simple terms, in order to offer to lend you money through a cc, they must have funds to lend. It may be that all their funds are allocated at the moment. (In overly simplistic terms, they can't offer you a credit limit of £5k, if they don't have access to £5k to cover it.)

Why? Nobody else knows until you paste it across social media.

They can't see a profit in you. Move on.

Don't you think it's something of an overreaction to suggest the removal of a card from a feature on here just because you didn't get one?!

Too right I would be embarrassed applying for an Aqua card and then adding insult to injury they reject you. Always thought these cards were for people who had problems getting a standard credit card elsewhere.

You have 10 cards already. What are trying for the hat trick or perhaps you just get a buzz from applying.

Or maybe it's because it's the only CC that has no foreign exchange loading and gives cashback on overseas transactions? That's why I have one.
