hounslow fine even though I paid by RinGO

Hello, I am furious! I parked in Hounslow while visiting the Hounslow Toy Library with my disabled son and his twin brother. I paid for parking by RingGo but was given a ticket for not displaying a pay and display ticket. I appealed immediately sending the RingGo Vat receipt as proof of payment. But they have rejected my appeal saying that I did not pay for the correct zone. I responded reiterating that I had paid for my parking in good faith. I can't believe I would have made up a number, but don't live near enough to pop back and check what was on the Machine. Hounslow RingGO seems to work in North and South zones, rather than street names and I can't get verification from RingGO about the zone quoted on that particular Pay and Display machine. Do I have any come back on this? Can I not pay and wait for them to take me to court about it? Any advice welcome. Thanks

Is it the council or a private parking company who are asking for the money?

Thanks for your reply. It seems to be the council, but so far my appeals have been dealt with by Serco, so I'm guessing a contracted agency. Does it make a difference to the appeals process?
