Toilet Cistern Problem

Hi,

I'm having a bit of an issue with the two toilets in my house. They both fill up with the slightest of trickles of water after being flushed and so it takes an absolute age for the cistern to be full again to flush.

I've closed and reopened the supply pipe connecting to the toilet thinking that it might not have been fully open but this has had no effect at all.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Air lock? Faulty filling valves not letting water through effectively? Kink in the flexi filling hose (if fitted)?

Have a look inside the cistern to see has the plastic pipe got a kink in it.

Hi it sounds like it could be your Toilet Cistern Ball Valve. These are really cheap and if you look at screwfix.com or B&Q or homebase you will be able to compare prices.

You have probably got a very small hole in the valve diaphragm which will mean the toilet takes ages to fill .

It is not a big job to do your self. look on you tube and there is plenty of videos showing you how to change one over.

    Hope this is helpful.
  • I'm not sure what you mean by air lock. The toilet does not have any type of flexible hosing. Theres only two parts to each toilet. The stiff skinny plastic pipe that comes up from the water fill pipe and then the bigger pipe in the middle of the toilet.

Could it be the water pipe outside the toilet? How far anti clockwise should I turn it to be fully open?
  • I'll give it a go Herbie, thanks
