Cruising: credit card use

Hi
Going on a cruise on an American liner where the currency is US dollars. I need advice as to whether it's best to have my credit card debited in US dollars and allow my card provider to determine exchange rate or for the cruise line to debit the card in sterling and effectively determine the exchange rate. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Usually having your card provider do the conversion will be cheaper, especially if you're using a card which doesn't charge for foreign currency charges, such as a Halifax Clarity card.
  • yes, get your card provider to convert it

I use Halifax Clarity card for cruising. You get a more accurate exchange rate (and in all of my cases a more favourable one) if you allow them to convert it.
