    CPU come with cooler.
    I suggest you get 2 x 4GB RAM instead of 1 x 8GB

8600GT is a bit outdated. intel onboard VGA probably better than that.

Can I ask why you say that? I thought it would be better to buy one stick so its easier for to buy one additional stick later to total it up to 16gb?

    Is dual better than single?

Would the I3 processor and g3258 with the motherboard I am buying allow me to use onboard graphics? I have the connections on the Mobo.

    Thanks

    Thanks

on dual channel systems, having dual memory will give a slight performance boost over a single stick. 16gb might be useful for running VM's but it depends on what VM's you usually run and how many you have running at once. 8GB is plenty for most other usage

as you do abit of gaming, then i would suggest going for an AMD APU on FM2 instead, which would be better than onboard gpu's.

the A10 would be a similar price to the FX6300, and FM2 motherboards can be had pretty cheap

Not sure if you have seen my updated post but I have decided against AMD because I am looking for better power efficiencies which from research the Intel would be a better bet and because they run cooler than AMD.

I am trying to decide whether I go with an Intel i3 4160 or an
Intel Pentium G3258 3.2GHz Dual-Core Processor which has got some very good reviews based on the comments from a fellow poster.

    Thanks

If you are not overclocking your machine. Get i3.
Overclocked G3258 can compare to i3

The reason I recommend 2 x 4GB RAM is the dual channel support as other says.
Since the mobo you chosen has 4 RAM slot. You still have 2 spare slot for 2 x 8GB in future and make it total for 24GB.

I should add that the heatsink paste should be changed every 1-3 years as you don't want it stick too much or too little.

The Intel CPUs you've mentioned operate at 55W, 10 higher than AMD's lowest.
