Current account charges for everyone?

It's to put pressure on the OFT to let them off lightly on the charges issue, and it's clearly working as the 'responsible' brigade are already turning against the 'reckless' who currently pay these penalty fees. Divide and Rule, always a good policy.
It also serves to soften up the Public to accept the idea of Bank charges for all. The idea will probably be free banking if you have other (Profitable) services, so it doubles as a way to replace lost revenue, and a marketing tool.0 -
Shape of things to come..... Lloyds are touting 25 quid a month now for their current account....
Other than private banking that has to be the peak at the moment.
It offers loads of 'benefits' that you don't/won't want, including these three little gems...
- a VISA debit card you can use in over 500,000 places in the UK and 18 million outlets worldwide,
- 24/7 access to PhoneBank on 0845 3 000 000. You can speak to our advisors or use our quick automated service,
- the efficiency and control of Internet banking, if you are registered,
Seriously, is that what we've come to?...... Here's me, with now't to try and claim back anyway, tried to avoid going in the red like the plague, for I knew I'd be charged.......
Oh happy days, roll on US style Checking accounts...... So now we're anywhere between about a tenner a month and 25!! quid a month for a C/A0 -
Abbey are introducing unauthorised overdraft service fees (not penalties)
But if the previous charges are judged to be penalties, these new charges are also penalties, simply with a different name. What the banks are doing is 'cloaking' the penalty, something courts and the OFT are aware of.0
