Hi
I've just bought a new Netbook for my son. It does not have a dvd/disc drive.
I want to install Microsoft office but I only have it on disc format. How can I do this?
Would I copy it on to a flash drive and then install from that?
If this is the case, how do I copy the disc?
Many thanks

Ah you bought one in the end, what did you buy ?
What version of office do you have ?
Some schools by the way offer free Office 365 as part of their deal with Microsoft, worth checking out with the school.

Just drag and drop the entire disk contents over, unlike OS disks it does not need to be bootable.
If you have Office 2013,, download the trial from Microsoft and put in your genuine key to save the copy to USB step..0 -

I got the one you recommended. I ordered it from Amazon - cost £5 more but it arrived yesterday.
Its Office 2013. I'm allowed to install it under a license for my own PC's.0 -

IIRC I think there are a couple of crucial hidden files on the CD that might have to be exposed so needs to turn on show hidden files.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -

At some point in the future you could change the HDD for a SSD (solid state drive) putting the old HDD into a case and using that as a back up drive. It's the best upgrade to do, a 120gb SSD can be had for about £50 plus a HDD case for £5.
See the points I made here:

Or for the sake of needing to use a dvd rom in the future you could buy an external usb one.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

If you have another PC with a CD/DVD drive, just share it on the network so the netbook can see (and install) it.0

If it's Office 2013, you should be able to go to Office.com and sign in to download (for all versions, I believe with the exception of ProPlus)Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
