One Day in L.A. - ideas please!

What would you do if you had 1 day to see LA?
Our last night is in the Wigwam Motel (yay!) in San Bernardino, and then we have all the next day free before flying out at 9.40pm.

What would you do? Leave the car somewhere and take an organised trip?

Any 'must sees'?

Or just hit a big mall? (we won't have had much time to do this as we're mostly touring canyons, or eating too much in Vegas...).

We did an unintended drive around Bel Air (a map of stars' homes may have helped), parked up on Hollywood Blvd to see the Chinese Theatre and a street resembling Blackpool, and looked at expensive shops on Rodeo Drive (think Pretty Woman).

And sat in a traffic jam even though it was Saturday.

I'd be tempted to sit on Malibu Beach myself.

If you are only there for one day it might be an idea to get a tour or see if they are any of the city walking tours in the am/pm. It saves the stress of "what if" you get lost and spend hours trying to find somewhere to park/visit.

    Have fun!!

PS... If you are possibly wanting to do some shopping then maybe find a morning tour of a couple of hours and then you have the afternoon for shopping before flying home
Thanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada

You can get a tube to where the chinese theatre and walk of fame are.On the street are lots of different firms offering tours these take you around all the main tourist atractions
  • Thanks all.

Usually we are very much independent, DIY tourists but I had a feeling that a tour could take all the hassle out of the day. (I still have nightmares of the 16 lane highway I ended up on as we passed through the place a few years ago...)

I think a morning tour then afternoon evening at the beach and/or mall sounds good.

We had one day and just picked up a cheap tour outside the Chinese theatre, it went to the Hollywood sign and a few other places and a did a star's homes. Was cheesy but fun.

We did the A Day in LA tour last time we were out there, was about $80 each, but took you to all the usual suspects in one day, starts early, had a good amount of time at the Farmers Market for lunch and a wander round the grove too.

Its a bus in rastafarian colours and every other tour takes pictures of your tour bus like its a mobile attraction :D

    This is what we did

It was an open top car/bus with a guide
We went around all the stars houses which also took us past most of the landmarks and we stopped off at Hurst Castle. The guide was fun and informative . If you've not done LA before it's a good overview.

Personally I'm not a fan of LA and that one day was enough I enjoyed it but wouldn't bother doing it again- If I had one day spare now I'd spend it at the beach or at Disney .

Allow LOTS of time to get back to LAX for your flight - the rush hour freeway traffic is unbelievably bad.
