Why not, are you suggesting it's beyond the home mechanic?0 -
Agree DIY is best but not for everyone. The Ford timing belts are particularly tricky for home mechanics because the pulley and cam sprockets are not keyed onto the shafts; just bolted up really tight. This means you need special tools to time it and a means to lock the flywheel and camshafts while removing and tightening bolts. We tried to do my daughter's Focus but couldn't even shift the pulley bolt (had no flywheel locking tool) and I've had a good many years in DIY repairs.0

Just buy the right tools for the job. Normally quite cheap these days. Far cheaper to buy tools than to pay modern labour rates.0

Some Fiesta's have a stretch fit belt if you don't have the right tool to fit it you can knacker it. You can also misalign it which could cause it to part as you describe.0

I would rate the Ford Zetec cambelt job as above average difficulty for the DIY mechanic and if you don't know what you are doing you can wreck your car so stop making it sound like its not much more than changing the plugs!0 -
So took it back in, he said he was sorry. He changed it over that day and it's been fine since. Although there is a dangling piece of sponge hanging from under the engine you can see when walking to the car. Heaven knows what that is but I doubt it is too important...0

Anti fuel explosion computer connector?! 😳
I'll have a look after work when I get back to the car, I'm quite sure it is sponge (can someone explain what just sponge would be doing under the engine) but I'm slightly concerned now so will get on the floor and look up it!0
