Advice regarding my daughter

Could the school let your daughter leave lessons say 5- 10 mins early to help hwr get to class without the worry of all the other kids. It will clear a path for her. Maybe they can get the teachers to leave any heavy books or homework in a designated area for her to collect at end of the day so she doesn't lug everything about. Maybe ask for a buddy system to be put in place to help settle her in.Mortgage free wannabe

My youngest son is very small for his age, he is 17 tomorrow (although looks younger than current year 7's) and is only just hitting 5ft after a recent growth spurt...for him, rather than making him the object of fun for others, it has helped him be the one that the girls want to protect. In other words, he has become a babe magnet! The boys were also very protective of him and would form a ring around him when the corridors at school were busy.
Re the hypermobility, we all have EDS where our joints dislocate/are more flexible with eldest being the most severely impacted. At high school, he was allowed to use the lift instead of the stairs when he was having a bad day, or when the use of stairs was increased. He was also allowed on icy days to stay inside or not cross site (there were two sites to the school approx half a mile apart) and allowances were made for a delayed arrival at class if he had limb problems during class transitions. He was also allowed to use a laptop during class as his fingers dislocated while writing.
These allowances have now followed him to university.
The key is to speak to the school, ask them what provisions can be made and to work with them. Most schools and SENCO departments are very approachable and a way forward can usually be found which works for both the student and the school.
Despite all the boy's disabilities (of which there are many), we have never been able to access school transport (very long and boring debacle), so even now at their advancing ages, I still have to do school runs for middle and youngest sons.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

The Blazer, Tie, and PE kit has to come from their suppliers.
Agree with cattermole, speak to the school now because we were assured than any extra small or large sizes which were needed would be supplied - made to order if necessary - by the school's official supplier at the same price as regular sizes.cattermole wrote: »With the school uniform the supplier should be able to meet her needs as per the school uniform codes of practice and it should not involve any additional costs as a results. Schools should not contract with one supplier without catering for all.Signature removed for peace of mind0
