Best Student Credit Card?

I want to get a credit card for extra protection when it comes to identity theft and so on, also a lot of them reward you for spending on them even when you pay the bill in full before any interest is applied.
Basically i'm after:
-best benefits for actually using the card (i.e. points that convert into useful vouchers in shops or something like that)
-longest period before having to pay the balance before interest is applied
i'm not planning on spending money i dont have, i just think if i can get benefits out of using a card and then just paying my balance at the end of each month then that would be good.
Can anyone help?

Could you not just get one with your student account if you have one? I assume most credit card companies will turn you down if you're a student and if you apply loads of times and keep getting turned down it will affect your credit rating as it will look like you're desperate for credit.
One with your bank account will probably have a fairly low limit so you wouldn't be able to go crazy with it and asking your bank if you could have one probably wouldn't affect credit rating etc and you could just set it up automatically to take the full amount every month quite easily.0 -
Barclaycard:

No annual fees
No over limit fees  (you still pay APR, though)
Fraud protection
Min month repayment: 5%
Identity theft protection/advice
Purchase delivery protection
Sadly, no special introductory offers.

Capital ONE:
34.9%
£2,500 credit
Your choice of card design
Again, sadly no special introductory offers.

The two card above are designed for people with poor credit history, new to credit (i.e. students). Please set-up a Direct Debit to pay off in full an outstanding balance per month.
P.S. To apply for the Barclaycard you need to know the address of your term-time accommodation, as well as your fixed address. Also, I may apply for Barclaycard's when I know the address of my accommodation."Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for."

"Your choice of card design"
that annoys me - what a card looks like should certainly be no incentive to get it!
Nationwide's CC allows you to spend overseas for no charge
I think your student account should offer a pretty good limit CC thats tied into the bank account and easy to pay off etcHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

It's nice if you're going to get it anyway. I card design might distract people from their APR."Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for."

there was a poll on here a while ago RE: having another teams football logo on their card - i couldn't believe the number of people who wouldn't use the card based solely on what i looked likeHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I can believe that. For example, would you use a Credit Card with a picture of a pig on it? I don't think I would. Maybe if it had 0% Purchases for 5 years. Some people worship their football time. Having a logo of another team is like a Christian worshipping in a Mosque."Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for."

I can vouch for Barclaycard. When I opened my student account with them last year they automatically signed me up for a card (with my persmission).
I havent touched it for over a year and obviously they have noticed this. About 3 weeks ago I got a letter saying that they have given me 10 months interest free on all purchases. Great timing as I was just about to go on holiday and we werent sure which credit card to take with us!
Plus I like using barclays as they are my bank and I find it easier having everything in one placeGreen and White Barmy Army!0 -
10 months is a long time for purchases. That's great.
I think what I will be doing is signing up for the Barclaycard as soon as I receive conformation of my accommodation address.
I hope they'll accept me, but I can see no reason why not - Student (CHECK), No CCJs (CHECK), no missed payments (CHECK)."Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for."
