Water Supply Pipe Insurance Is It Worth It?

I have a policy from Homeserve which insures the section of pipe between my internal stop tap, and the external stop tap which is the water companies responsibility. This is due for renewal at £48 and I'm not sure if it's worth having.
Our house is very old and I know water pipes can cause big problems if they run under the house etc. The claim limit is £3000 which sounds pretty good in theory.
Has anyone had a claim on one of these or has had any info about them please?

Water company normally willing to pay for one repair to supply on your property;-

and decent home insurance has "trace & access" cover as standard;-
For example;-Trace and access cover – covers the cost of tracing leaked water and oil and repairing damage caused by the investigations
Up to £5,000
What would happen if your customer had a leak but didn’t know where it was coming from and had to tear down a wall or ceiling? XXX would cover the cost of any damage caused when trying to find the leak.
You need to determine if your cover offers something above what can be obtained as above.I am a mortgage broker. Ten years Homeserve Cover is going to cost over £500...0 -
Insurance against being hit by an asteroid is probably better value. There are millions of Victorian/Edwardian properties with 100 year old supply pipes, and failure is not that common.
As above, you may already have such cover in place. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Does the mains run under the house?
How far is it to the main stopcock?
What is the pipe made of?
Are there trees on the route
the above will affect the risk and cost of repair, and so influence the advantages of insuring.
Plus as said many water companies will do the first repair free.
And some buildings insurance will cover some/all the risk too.0
