HELP!! £50/40 required urgently.

Options
Hi all,

I am a student in Manchester and, my girlfriend and I have booked to see Morrissey in Belfast (her hometown) on Tuesday night. She is already there, I am supposed to be going over tomorrow or the day after, however, I haven't booked my flight out yet because bills/rent ect. drained my monthly wages and I had been hoping my parents could help but they simply just can't afford it either, for various reasons.

One being I owe them £150 I borrowed when it became clear I'd have no cash until my next payday. Which annoyingly falls the day after the concert.

So there is a flight out on Tuesday which if booked tomorrow should only cost around £50. Which I don't have, until Wednesday, the day after the concert.

-I've totted up what my unwanted games/DVDs would be worth if traded into Cex, and that's £25 roughly, still not enough!
-I really don't feel comfortable borrowing money from friends as they're all in the same boat as me, being students.
-I have an old laptop that I'm told if sent into a second hand laptop trading site is worth £40, but obviously that takes time and I wouldn't be credited with the money before Tuesday.
-I looked on SmartPig.com and to borrow £50 to be paid back on Wednesday would result in paying back £53.50 (nothing basically) but I've been told borrowing from them effects credit scores ect.
- I have Uni textbooks to trade but again for the same reasons as my old laptop won't receive the money for them in time

I feel like I'm running out of options and beginning to really stress out so I just wondered if anybody could share any ideas or methods of obtaining enough to get my flights ASAP.

Thanks, Alex.

I see 2 options ask your employer for a small advance or go for the payday loan.

    Should have budgeted for it.

  • you are living beyond your means . If you had,nt booked this concert , and had a night in , you might be able to pay your parents back

I have (some) sympathy with people that have been left in the lurch due to the works going bust or even them on benefits being sanctioned

    but not in your case

I would like a iPhone,,,, and a ferrarri , but the truth is I CANNOT AFFORD THEM

Looks like the gf will be going alone.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
  • Bus from Manchester to Liverpool £4.10 - £12 (depending on time)
Ferry from Liverpool to Belfast £20

If your girlfriend has your ticket with her, she could sell it to a friend and you could be quids in.

  • Appreciate the suggestions, with all due respect I'm not living beyond my means.

Morrissey is my girlfriend's idol he hasn't toured in the UK for years and might not again in the future. She has had an awful year and I'm not going to go into detail because I'm not looking for sympathy I'm looking for advice. We stay in pretty much every night to save money because we don't get massive student loans so we both work in order to live together. This was a nice treat, and a change, we budgeted for it, but we had to fly to Belfast earlier in the month because of personal reasons involving her family, and it cut our budget in half. I would like a Ferrari too, but i'd rather just not let my girlfriend down.

    - Sparkie: Will look into the ferry idea thanks mate!

Got any electronics you could take to cash converters on a buy back basis (TV/phone maybe)?

Never done it myself so don't know precisely what the costs are but I suspect it wouldn't affect your credit file.

Advance until payday from employer might be the answer if you have a good relationship with boss.

Take the payday loan... if it damages your credit rating then good, you will not be able to borrow any more and will get used to living within your means.

This concert does sound like the kind of exceptional thing that justifies borrowing, but credit as a way of life is a very bad idea.

Would love to stress that I am not living beyond my means, there is a lot of context I've left out here to avoid just typing a long depressing lament. I manage my money very sensibly, and have sacrificed a lot so my girlfriend and I can live together despite being from different countries.

Just thought I'd say i'm going to go for the ferry, £30 outbound and £5 for the bus to Liverpool, I'll manage to get £35 somehow. Lots of waiting involved but I don't care, just wanted to get to my girlfriend, so thanks again mate! I owe you one :T
