BT, M & S and unknown

Not sure who I am venting at here but I'm not a happy frog.
Woken up by a text today to say my bank account is overdrawn. A visa payment is shown on my M & S bank account made payable to BT bill payment 1 Durham.
I have a direct debit via another account to pay for my bt bill.
I rang M & S who advised that this was a payment made via the phone or internet on 19th March and they gave me a BT reference number for the payment. I rang BT who could not identify the reference number. Both of the companies are looking into this and will contact me back on Monday.
I have cancelled my visa card (debit) but I have the card in my purse and have no idea how anyone could have made a visa payment with it. :mad:

Yes, they are passing it to the charge back department to investigate but they only work Monday to Friday.

I contacted M & S bank this morning who have put the payment into dispute and refunded the money to my account.
They will contact BT but have said it could take 4 to 6 weeks for this to be resolved. They will request the money back from BT who may prosecute the person responsible for the fraud.
In the meantime I will await my new visa card and hopefully nothing like this will happen again.
