Job Change maybe

Options
Hi
I have been working as a bus driver for a bus company since September 2006. Now I have found out that they are stopping all their services by 3rd May 2015. The company as not told use/me about anything that is going on. But we believe that they dont plan to pay redundancy but to give us a job with about 20 hours a week and min wage.At present i have been getting paid for 43.5 hours a week and paid 2 per hour more . Can I ask for my redundancy or what rights do I have. And do the employer have a right to tell use what is going on or planning
Thankyou

Stop listening to gossip and wait till you hear something official from the company.

What other jobs do the bus company have available. ??

If they only provide bus services, then surely they would be closing down.

Do you have a union, if so, ask them to find out what is going on.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • they do school run work using mini buses. we have been told via a type of manager that we will do school runs.. but that is a good pay drop for me. Half the hours and £2 per hour less. Can i ask for my redundancy. No union there.
  • This is not a normal company by the way they work. The last time there was cut backs, the drivers was told a few days before via a text message

If you get a text message telling you news about your job, ignore it and turn up for work. The company has to tell you officially. Are you contracted for 43.5 hours on a particularly hourly rate? If so, then if that job goes and the offer you another with half the hours and less pay, then say it is 'not suitable alternative employment'. That is your decision. If they cannot offer you a suitable role they will have to make you redundant and pay accordingly.
