Hi All,
Have produced a simple invoice document using word. From a refferal somebody would liketo take a look over it
Is it possible to protect the file somehow from being copied or used?
Really all I want them to be able to do is to view it and not copy it in anyway including printing it
Regards
Pete

Click on "+" next to "TO Protect a Word 2003 Document". Halfway down the next page, it shows you how to set permissions for different things on it.0 -
Take a digital photo of it and send them that to look at.
Even protecting it as detailed above I think they would still be able to use it.
Nothing to stop anyone re-creating it from a photograph either though I suppose.0 -
Hi mercman 1969,
You could convert it into a PDF format, but you will need Adobe Writer to do this.0 -

OpenOffice also allows you to save a file as a PDF.0 -
You can still print PDF files, and send them to others, and copy text from them0

Hiya,
Just had a thought that you could put a watermark in the background of your document with the words sample clearly embezzled into the document. This would make it harder to copy.
To do this go to the Format menu in word
> then Background
> then printed watermark
> No / Picture / Text watermark can be selected from the pop up box which appears.
If you chose text you can add the word "Sample" without the quotes to your document which when views would have your original wording on the top of the watermark which is clear enough to read, but the word "Sample" would be in the background.
The size, type and layout of the text can also be altered from here along with the colour form the original pop up box. When I use it I usually use greyscale, as my typing is usually just black.
Once you have done this you can then change your document to read only through going to :-
> Tools
> Options
> Security tab, then chosing read only from there where you can also password your document off, with varying options to suit in there.
Ok the really determined could also just use your invoice as a template, and sit and take the time to do copy it, this alas there is nowt you can do unless you copy right your design.
Mmmm there is a thought you can always add at the bottom of your invoice that the design is copyrighted by you and add the copyright symbol beside your name.
Worth a shot.
This url has more info for doing it if your stuck:-

and another with different options using word art and your header / footers
