Lowell Portfolio Limited - Small Claims Action - Help Needed!
Rayvon
Lowell Portfolio Ltd has raised a small claims action against a friend in relation to an alleged debt.
The instruction is to respond to the court in regard to this matter.
My friend has no knowledge of the alleged debt. Further, no particulars have been provided that would enlighten what the alleged debt relates too.
A quick Google search, and posts on this forum, indicates Lowell Portfolio Ltd acquires debts from other companies, and may have questionable business practices. Again, no information has been provided to verify what their claim relates to.
There is a requirement to return a signed version document to the court, and furnish a copy to Lowell Portfolio Ltd. An immediate concern on this requirement is this exposes the risk of my friend's signature being fraudulently used - for example, to fraudulently enter into finance agreements.
To remove this risk, is it permissable to return the document without a signature, or for another party to sign the document instead of my friend?
Any hints, tips and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
If this post is better placed in another more appropriate section please let me know. Thanks.

Just use a different version of your signature. For example, if you are Mr F P Jones, sign it Fred Jones instead of 'F P'. Then, should 'Fred Jones' appear on any documents you can point to that. However I honestly think it is very unlikely to happen. Most important - your friend must Not miss any court dates as judgment could be entered in default.0
