If you are prepared to consider a villa, what about this:

If you don't really prefer a hotel, then just go for a small villa with a pool, pick early July when the children are still at school and you should find something within budget.

We are going to the Cleopatra Palace in Tenerife in May, so not there. :)

No more than a 5 hour flight, preferably less.

    Any ideas?

We went to the Cleopatra last September and had the private plunge pool... It was WONDERFUL!!! As well as being a perfect location right by the Safari Centre and Hard Rock Cafe the plunge pool was a godsend! We went to the supermarket opposite the Parque Santiago and bought supplies for lunches on the balcony so it was almost like a villa with the best bits of a hotel stay. Enjoy!

FYI the mediterranean next door also has a couple of private pool rooms on the top floor.

  • Lots of villas with private pools under £1,000 per week in Spain, Portugal, or Italy. Try Owners Direct.

I looked at Owners a Direct myself but read a few off putting reviews indicating they are not ATOL protected?

Was at the Blue Place in Crete last year and there was a reasonable sized "private" pool on the terrace of the room. I "" because it was private access for you only but not private as in not overlooked.

Only downside was the pool wasnt heated and even in late august was a bit cool.... fine after you get in and beautiful views from it but required a bit of courage to make the first jump
