Aldi 3 year Warranty / Guarantee - JTM Contracts

Hi, does anyone know what my rights are in the following situation;
I bought a Halogen Oven for £29.99 with a 3 year guarantee from Aldi in Jan 2013. It broke down in Jan 2015 and, as per instructions, I returned it to JTM Contracts (Cost £7.28). After 5 or 6 phone calls and my also sending them the postal receipt so that they could refund my postage, I got a cheque for £19.36 this week. They say this represents 65% of the cost as I've had 2 year's usage. No mention of postage refund.
When I buy from Aldi with a 3 year warranty, that's what I expect and I'm only getting £19.36 rather than £37.27 (inc. my postage costs).
How can I dispute this and get more please ?
BTW - they mention consumer law "principals" ! Who are these principals ?
Cheers - Joe

Thats probably about right as you have had 2 years use out of it, but someone with more knowledge will be along soon0

Your contract was actually with Aldi, so anything the manufacturer gives you under their warranty is in addition to your legal rights and entirely bound by their own terms. To refund nearly 2/3 of the original purchase price is actually pretty generous (they have reduced it due to the 2 years of use you have already had). Had you returned the oven to Aldi they would have been within their rights to ask you to prove that the item was inherently faulty, possibly by asking you to commission an independent report stating that this was the case, and if the report did not find in your favour then you would have been out by a substantially larger sum for the cost of the report and no refund for the oven. Even if the report found in your favour then Aldi would be quite correct in refunding you with a reduction for the 2 years of use that you have had. The only recourse you have to reclaim the postage cost is if the manufacturer has at any point agreed to refund it.0
