Does personal data always have to be up to date?

This depends on what the information is used for. If the information is used for a purpose that relies on it remaining current, it should be kept up to date. For example, your employee payroll records should be updated when there is a pay rise. Similarly, records should be updated for customers’ changes of address so that goods are delivered to the correct location.

In other circumstances, it will be equally obvious when information does not need to be updated.

Here are a few credit reporting principles:-

What is not addressed is the failure to update a record. The ball is with the ICO on that one.

Failure to update would be a breach of:
Data that is reported on your credit file must be fair, accurate, consistent, complete and up to date.

'Data that is reported on your credit file must be .... up to date'

    Couldn't be much clearer IMO.

Just to keep you all upto speed...

In August I had an outstanding balance on my Barclaycard of £650.00. I paid the balance in full however since August my account balance has not been up dated and is still the case today. I challenged it with Barclaycard and they stated they are not obligated to report inform to the CRAs. I exhausted the complaints process and passed the matter to the FOS and they said exactly the same.
