Personalised number plate changeover
Hello
I have purchased a personalised number plate and I am about to send off the appropriate forms, V5 and MOT cert etc to DVLA to change it over. Do I have to wait for the new V5 to come back before I can actually change the plates or am I able to do so as soon as I have sent the forms off.

I'm pretty sure the amswer to that question is on the forms somewhere.
Edit: OK, maybe it isn't.0 -
you wait till you get a reply , in with the reply is a form that allows you to have number plates made up.
you cannot change the numbers until it is registered on there system0 -
You also can't buy plates (legally) without the relevant V5c.0

You must wait until the replacement docs (V5C and MOT) arrive, before fitting the new plates.0

you can get them made up while you wait at a motor factors or halfrauds
a back st factors "might" make them up if you bluff it and show them summot with the number on
I think the wording from DVLA was that you are supposed to change them "as soon as practicable"0 -

You cannot legally, that's why they buy them in Ireland!!!!!!.
If the spaceing is incorrect it will fail the mot every time, & the police will eventually pull you up.0 -
correct I did know that , hence I used the word (legal) in my question to the poster that remarked you could buy them legally.0

There are lots of places that will supply legal plates.
Legal as far as spacing, font, borders and logos are concerned.
It's just that the maker may not abide by the law in checking you are entitled to use the plate - normally by having sight of hthe V5C.
All the rules are here:
https://www.gov.uk/displaying-number-plates/getting-number-plates-made-up
but as usual not everyone follows them.
If the plates have all the proper markings it's unlikely that anyone will know how they were obtained.0
