dishwasher and washing machine stick out 2 inches

Hi,
I've had some building work done, the builders put in the pluming for the dishwasher and washing machine directly behind the units. As the machines are 600mm and the worksurface is 600mm the plumbing causes the units to stick out a few inches and really ruins the kitchen for me, they are right infront of where I want do to most of my food prep.
They are saying this is unavoidable and my fault as I bought a 600mm surface rather than a 630mm. I can't see why they couldnt just put the pluming to the side, behind another unit where there is space and the water and outflow pipes easily would strectch round there, they don't need to be at the back of the machine. If they did this then the machines can go directly against the wall.
This cant be a problem for everyone right? They should be able to fix this? Am i wrong to withhold payment until they fix this?
It really does spoil my new kitchen

Well if they stick out two inches a worktop which is only 30mm deeper wouldn't solve the problem.
Did they know the kitchen specs before they started the work ??0 -
You're right. The waste pipes and cold feed pipe as well ss the electrical supply should be in the cupboard next to the appliances. This is common (and good) practice.
I'm not convinced that they are kitchen fitters! If you are holding money back, make sure they amend it before you pay them.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Lazy gits is what they are. Get them to put the water, waste and power in an adjacent cabinet and you will miraculously find 25mmWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
