Thoughts on investing for 5 year old please

I would be grateful for any thoughts on investing a thousand pounds for my 5 year old granddaughter please.
I have looked at investing in the Life Strategy Fund (80% equity) through Hargreaves Lansdown, which is what I think I may do, but this is all very new to me and a little bewildering.
The money would not be put in her ISA but a in to a bare trust and would occasionally be topped up when possible.
I wonder if anyone can give me an idea as to whether I am on the right track or whether I should be looking elsewhere to compare other investments before I go ahead.
Thank you.

"Junior Investment Account
You can open a Vantage Fund & Share Account under a bare trust where an adult acts as the trustee, administering the account for the benefit of the child. Application and election for bare trust forms are available in the free Guide to Investing for Children which also contains further details on investing through bare trusts."0 -
