Is there a way to stop pre-approved credit offers coming through the post?

It really annoys me!
DH and I worked really hard to pay off our debts (with MEGA thanks to this forum :beer:), and are now enjoying being able to save a bit. So I find it really irksome when we keep getting pre-approved credit cards etc through the door. I know this is a marketing approach which must work for the companies - or they wouldn't do it - but I really think it's not on.
Has anyone ever tried, or had success, getting them to stop? We're moving soon, but I expect they will magically figure out our new address :mad:

There are various organisations which you can register with to opt out of such direct marketing (googling "stopping junk mail" might be a good place to start....), but surely if you want to remain debt free you need to learn to resist such temptation...?0

I can resist, it, Tim, but that doesn't mean it's not annoying. I'm all for personal responsibility but I happen to think this is an ethically dubious practice.0

Do they still do this ?
I must of been taken off the Christmas card list lol, as not had any for years, i find spam emails are the worst offenders now.
Royal mail, unfortunately, have a duty to carry all post, regardless of its content, only way round it is to see if you can get your name/address removed from the marketing "list".
Maybe write to the lender concerned and ask who does there marketing for them, and request your removed from the list.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Is it an ethically dubious practice for the local takeaway to push its leaflets through the doors of customers who are overweight?
Maybe, maybe not, but as long as you have a letter box through which people (be they employed by Royal Mail or not) can deliver mail, you're going to get junk mail. Move it from doormat to recycling bin without a 2nd glance, and save your annoyance for something which really matters.0 -
how would takeaways (or people delivering leaflets for them) know whether residents are overweight?Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

Why not just take great pleasure in turning the pre-approval letters into confetti. It costs them money to send them out, and it can be theraputic to tear these letters up for free

These things normally come with a pre paid return envelope. Just rip everything up into pieces and send it back them at their own expense. They'll get the message.0

Or even send company A leaflets to company B ? And vice-versa.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0 -
I agree with the OP, but yes they can just be ignored.

However, I think I would be a bit concerned that if I moved, the letters would fall into the wrong hands. Yes I would have a redirection, but if a few letters slipped through the net, what if the pre-approved credit card applications fall into the wrong hands, and the new person at your old house fills in the form for you and obtains a credit card (or two) in your name?!
Could this happen?You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:0
