printers...aarrgh!!!!

i have a very cheap but until now reliable printer, epson c44
but it now wont print any black, i assume its the heads that need cleaning as it has a new ink cartridge in it, is there any way to manualy clear the heads without having to constantly print off tons of test sheets eah time it goes through its nozzle clean cycle:cool:

Only by dismantling it and using head cleaning fluid.

Try using the SSC Utility as it gives you more control when cleaning etc. i.e. you can just clean the black.

I found with the two epson printers I had they would both clog up through lack of use. Through the research I did it seemed that this was an Epson problem and you needed to use it at least once a day to keep the print heads clear. I tried all the reconmended methods of cleaning I even tried forcing cleaning fluid throught the ink nozzles with a syringe, apart from decorating my ceiling with ink (still there) and getting covered myself I had no luck. End result! dumped Epson bought Canon which uses a different system of ink delivery, never had a problem since.... also remember printers don't last forever.

Must admit I like the canon too. I have a Pixma ip3000 and I find that I can clean the printhead under the tap with a little bit of effort - as the new printheads cost more than the original printer, thats extremely useful

My epson C46 decided to not recognise any black ink cartridges that were installed in it about a 2 months ago; end result was that we had to change the printer as we tried everything to get it working.

Before that, we had an epson 740 which also broke down after about 2 years; seems to be my own personal experience that epson printers don't last that long and need to be replaced after a few years.
