Hello
I'm not great at thinking through things clearly at the moment (Depression and anxiety issues) and would greatly appreciate your thoughts, on whether I've got this right.
I opened a Santander 123 account on 16th March and am aware that I need to service it with 2 DDs. So, I'm thinking about the best way to implement this:
1 DD currently leaves my Co-op acc on 23rd of the month and another on 30th March. Right, what order to this this? Should I cancel the DDs with the Co-Op acc, then contact the 2 companies I've the DDs with and give them them my Santander acc details to withdraw the money.
My concern, is that the DDs wont be in place before 16th April in order to avail of interest with Santander.
Please let me know if I'm doing this right. Many thanks in advance for your help. :A

no, don't cancel anything
contact the company concerned and ask them to transfer your DD to the santander bank: they will cancel the old one and set up the new
obviously check that this has been done correctly (assuming your have online banking)
PS depending with companies you have, you cna sometimes do it yourself online if you have online access to them e.g. utilities, sky, talktalk etc0 -
I would just contact the companies with the new details, leaving the old DDs in place until the first payment is made from the new account. It should be possible to get them set up by the 16th April, generally about 8 working days is needed (and they could be considered to be set up in half that time). I don't know if they have to have paid before they are considered active by Santander, but the terms only say 'set up'.
Alternatively, you could open two Tesco savings accounts, which would allow you to set up the two direct debits to your Santander account and any other accounts that need it in the future.0 -
So long as the direct debits are set up on the Santander 123 account that will fulfil the terms and conditions. I changed my Three mobile, Sky Tv and South West water direct debit online with no problems but alternatively you could do it by telephone.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. I just called the companies up and gave them my new 123 bank account details.
Takes 5 minutes each.
It is that simple. I opened three accounts between me and my wife so moved six DDs.0 -
Thanks a million everyone, I'll contact the companies tomorrow. You've definitely reassured me. :T :A0
