Lloyds overdraft excess charges

I had an overdraft with Lloyds TSB which I am still paying back and the balance is now £3277 (the account has been closed for some time). The original amount was over £4000 which included around £1800 of bank charges.

The charges were mainly my fault through failed payment arrangements whereby the limit would decrease each month however I consistently missed payments and the charges mounted up.

I did query the charges as being excessive however they dismissed me due to the banks winning the court case.

My question is would I have any chance of getting my balance reduced and some of these charges written off? I could not claim under financial hardship as I can manage my bills etc.

You can ask but the chances are slim.

If there is some hardship element then they can still be reclaimed, and I have seen this happen numerous times.

There's no harm in asking if the hardship was the case at that time and you can prove this.

As the account has been closed, that must mean you defaulted and they have put you on a recovery basis to repay that debt.

if you are on a recovery basis then they may well accept a lump sum now for a reduced amount to settle the account rather than you paying back on drip. you can ask them.
