Flying with medication

I've never flown before either...

Thinking of going abroad a few times this year. My travel insurance has finally gone down; so I can justify going abroad, finally.

Anyway, I'm currently on 2 inhalers and 2 tablets a day. I can't find anything on the Flybe website (either that, or I'm not looking in the right place?) in regards to flying with medication.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction of the rules regarding flying with medication? Thank you.

Depending on how long you're going for, take it in your hand luggage, or at least take enough in your hand luggage that if your hold luggage goes awol you have enough to last till you can replace it.
If you have it put in in daily/weekly boxes, take a copy of the prescription along with you so that you can show people what it is. This also would help you get replacements more quickly if you need to for any reason. And if there is anything that may cause a problem in your particular destination (eg something opiate based) get a letter from your GP to verify it's legit.

I usually have a letter from hospital nurse that states OK to fly and lists all my medication. Have been doing this for years. Only once has the letter been read at security, and was checked at Kennedy Space Centre a few years back as was carrying sharps. I use the hospital as they do not charge for letter but GP does. I get the letter mainly for fit to fly reasons as brittle asthma on nebulisers. If just inhalers and tablets and stable to fly I wouldn't worry about a letter and just use repeat prescription. If in doubt talk to your GP, nurse, etc

I always pack majority of my medication in my hand luggage, it depends on how long I'm going for, last year I was away for just over 3 weeks and 3 weeks of painkillers was lot so split between my cases.

I also had a copy of my prescription both as a paper copy and an electronic one on dropbox. I always keep the box with the medication. The only issue I've had was when my migraine medication was a nasal spray and I had to put them into the clear plastic bag with other liquids.
Thanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada

I've never had a problem with taking tramadol and/or morphine. I take them in their boxes (with the prescription label) and take a copy of my repeat prescription. I also take my diabetes testing kit (inc little needles) without any trouble. I take all my meds in my hand luggage - just in case!

I'd just like to say it's good to see you Indie and I'm pleased you've finally got a decent rate for your travel insurance.x

Thanks. :) I did debate about putting my tablets into the dosette boxes; but did wonder if they'd get funny about it.

Not on morphine thankfully. Just on Loperamide and Topamax / Toperamite.
