The importance of checking your rating

We are applying for a mortgage and about 10 days ago when I created an Experian account and logged on it said my rating was "Good"

I went in today, really to cancel it as we've now applied for the mortgage, and my rating has dropped by 268, putting it in to "Poor"

One reason is that the mortgage people have checked our credit which has had a negative impact (great!) but the other reason seems to be from a late payment from Barclaycard.

It seems to imply that this month, payment is up to date, but last month it was 4 months overdue, then 3, 2, and 1.

The problem is that it also says the account was closed in November 2013?! So I called Barclaycard and they confirmed there was nothing on the account, so I called a Credit person (I'm not sure of the company but Barclaycard gave the details) and they confirmed it shouldn't be there at all, and they will now forward to correct details to Experian...

Obviously this is massively annoying, and I'm really confused and cross about it as the mortgage is still going through and I'm worried it will impact unfavourably, but it's definitely a wake up call to check one's account regularly. I don't suppose I can follow it up in any way, but thought I'd share it on here in the hope that it will encourage others to check all the information on their file is correct.

    Hi laura2004

I understand your concerns and trying to get your credit report ready as you’re still currently going through with your mortgage.

If you’ve noticed information recorded incorrectly by your lenders on your report then please get in contact with us, we would be able to query this information directly with your lender (Barclaycard) on your behalf.

I would like to wish you the best of luck with your mortgage application, if there is anything else you would like us to double check on your credit report then please let us know.

As you’ve also mentioned you wanted to cancel your membership, you can find details here on how you can do so.

    Kind Regards
    James Jarvis
