Parking Charge Notice for using Staff Carpark

I don't suppose this is going to be a black/white question, but I could do with some help.
I've just be passed a 'Parking Charge Notice' by my boss, it contains a photo of my Company Car being parked in an NHS Staff Car Park that ParkingEye Manage - I don't work for the NHS and my registration isn't registered with them as being a staff vehicle.
However my Wife, who is NHS staff was driving that day and had popped into work to pick up some paperwork in my Car (which she's allowed to drive).
I don't know how best to tackle it - our first thoughts were to call them up, explain the situation and a decent company would accept what's happened and that would be it - but I suspect that they'll simply claim that we didn't follow the rules by registering the reg with them and that the 'fine' is still payable despite the fact she's a staff member - if we call them, does it somehow ruin the 'correct appeal procedure'?

Don't bother trying to be reasonable with the PPC, but definitely worth getting your wife to talk to the hospital management about getting it cancelled.0

NEVER PHONE THEM, always in writing, read the Newbies thread and appeal as keeper, do not say who was driving.0
