There is a refreshing loving breeze running through the likes of Ryanair and their partners - no don't laugh, it might actually be true !
I had to cancel a flight to Stansted at very short notice recently and I'd booked a Group C car through Ryanair with Hertz at the same time I bought the air ticket. I'd paid just sixty quid for 3 days. I thought that was well worth it.
But anyway, come the day, something else came up and I couldn't go. So I sorted my stuff and eventually (about an hour after I should have been at Stansted I thought to call up Stansted Hertz to give them the heads up that I'd not be turning up so they could rent the car to someone else.
I also ventured that maybe they might give me some sort of credit next time
I spoke to a lovely lady who said she'd check it out. I wasn't expecting a refund. She came back and said there'd be a £30 cancellation charge as it was a recent booking and short notice. I thought ha - serves me right for asking for a credit and was getting ready to hand over my card details to pay, but thought I'd just take my foot out of my mouth and check.
"So that's another £30 I owe for not turning up? That's a bit steep. Oh well ..."
"No we deduct the charge from the refund"
"Oh! Refund? So I still get some money back?"
"Yes let me just check again"
"OK"
"OK Mr Garnett, there will be no cancellation charge - we can make a full refund - I have just processed it for you".
"Wow that's great, thanks everso!"
"No problem - you should see it in a few days, but if you don't, please don't hesitate to call again and I will chase it up."
"Thanks again! Brilliant!"
And sure enough, it took about a week, but the full amount is back in my account!
I'm lovin' it, and so are they apparently !
So much nicer now O'Leary has mellowed in his old age and everyone around him is getting the message
Now then - I wonder what'll happen if I ask Ryanair if they can consider a refund too, following Hertz' lead :rotfl:
