With the solar eclipse on Friday just after 9am, anyone know where we can buy the eclipse-safe glasses?

Replacement glass for a welding mask would be sufficient.
I hear it's going to be very cloudy anyway so will probably be a waste of money as we wont see it...0 -

Ah thanks very much for that info. I'll just go and find that welding mask that I was bought for Christmas but haven't had chance to use yet. It's probably under the stairs somewhere ...

I have heard that there is a pair supplied with this month's edition of the sky at night magazine (£5) but has anyone seen any other newspapers or local suppliers?0

Apparently, the film from inside a CD will work... getting the sucker out might be interesting, though.
Personally, I used it as an excuse to buy a fader filter for my camera, which worked out the same as two pairs of (cardboard!) eclipse glasses sold online.
The easiest/cheapest approach is to project the image through a pinhole, or a scope / binoculars, onto paper. I've done that in the past and it worked well. Even a simple magnifying glass will work (but don't burn the paper while you focus it...)0 -
