Current Account Switch,Halifax failed to transfer direct debit

During recent Current Account Switch, Halifax admitted they failed to transfer direct debit for my Santander Loan and I received a Notice of miss payment letter.
I called Halifax and they insisted they sent the instruction to Santander, which failed to setup direct debit at their ends to catch up with my loan repayments. I also pointed out that if they knew they couldn't transfer direct debit from Santander, they should at least let me know so I could make payment via other methods. They admitted it is their fault on this issue. Now this miss payment would have negative impact on my credit account. Is there any compensation I could get please?
I have recorded the whole telephone conversation.

This is like herding cats. I just responded to your identical other thread. Although this board is probably better for your issue than the Savings board

Thank you Colsten, I have deleted the other thread.0

There has been a theoretical discussion about this sort of thing in the last few days in http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/....php?t=5196234. Hope that gives you some pointers - essentially Halifax needs to sort it all for you. If they don't, start with a formal complaint and make it clear to them at the outset that you will go to the FOS if this isn't resolved to your total satisfaction within max 8 weeks.0

You should raise the issue with the account switching team at whichever bank you switched your account to. It is their responsibility to sort this out.0

The Halifax also needs to amend your credit file due to bank error.0

I transferred to halifax in 2012. I got a new type of halifax sort code that some other banks failed to recognise. So 3 of my 5 direct debit failed to set up.
I got a load of problems with this. Fortunately the other companies refunded the missed charges as a 'goodwill' gesture and Halifax gave me an extra £50 compo.
but it was a pain.0
