Dishwasher - I think is a must but that is because I have had one for sooo long. You do need to get enough crockery to fill it, i've got a couple of sets and we put ours on once a day when we go to bed and then I unload it in the morning. It saves a lot of arguements!!

Tumble Dryer - Again I think this is something that once you've had you can't live without! Towels are dryed lovely in it and I can't imagine not having one now, it also does wonders getting dog hair off of throws and bed linen. I do still use the line outside however and much prefer my clothes dryed naturally but convieniance wins the battle for me!

I think a dishwasher is more of a must than a tumble dryer. If there are only two of you in the house then you could get away without either, but if there in one in the house then you might as well use it!

My OH's granny just donated her barely-used tumble dryer to us, since we are expecting our third baby! Otherwise I probably wouldn't have bought one. Up until now I have been managing with one indoor clothes-horse all winter, although in summer we have one of those whirlythings outside which makes line drying much easier. For environmental and cost reasons I will hopefully continue to line dry as much as I can and just use the dyer for finishing off slightly damp things, and softening up the cloth nappies.
