Lloyds TSB Graduate Account - Illiterate Advisers in Lewisham?

Options
Hey all,

Just thought I'd share this story with you - I accompanied one of my cousins yesterday to open a graduate account with Lloyds TSB in Lewisham (South East London). They'd made her come for the third time running, each time not being satisfied with the documents. First they needed her bank statements and assured her the account would be open as soon as she brought them in.

Except when she did, they told her it wasn't recent enough (Natwest send them in 3 month batches). She ordered a new recent set, got these and went in again yesterday for the third time, expecting the account to be open this time.

And then, right in front of my own eyes, I heard the most ridiculous argument ever about them refusing to open her bank account. Hear this: the adviser told her he wasn't satisfied with the documents she had brought in. Which documents would you ask? Her degree certificates. She has a BA in English from the University of Warwick (first class) obtained in 2005, and an MA from Queen Mary, University of London (distinction) obtained in December 2006. When I quizzed him further, he proceeded to reply, with a very straight face mind you, that he didn't recognise those universities and therefore wouldn't be able to open the account.

By that time, I wasn't sure whether to laugh or to shout in exasperation at the moronic adviser - I did neither and just walked out.

Anybody else encounter similar well-educated people in branch? If anyone from Lloyds Lewisham reads it, that would be the account opening adviser on duty on Saturday morning, around 11.30.

I would write and complain! What a knob! Surely if he was uncertain a quick google would reveal all - not to mention the close proximity of QM to Lewisham!!!

I wish I'd caught his name on his badge, but was way too hacked off to even think of doing that!
