Internet Banking

I wanted to transfer a large sum of money from my LLoyds account online. I tried to transfer it but the message read 'you have exceeded daily amount in one transaction' so I thought I could 'do' it in 3 transactions on the same day. I transferred one amount and then tried again but it wouldn't let me. So I cancelled the first transfer and went to the bank to transfer the total amount by a 'CHAPS'. I had made sure there were enough funds in the account to cover the amount. I was totally horrified the next day to receive a letter saying the bank was charging me £35 for being overdrawn from the first transaction. I rang the bank and they said there was nothing they could do as I should have rung internet banking immediately. I said I thought it was cancelled so why would I have rung internet banking as I didn't know anything was amiss.
I explained to telephone banking what had happened and that they could see that the payment I had tried to make and the 'CHAPS' were both going to the same recipient so it was a genuine error. They said to go into my local branch and 'beg' them to refund the charge but they said it was unlikely it would be refunded.
I am going into my bank tomorrow but my query is, if the bank does refuse to refund do I have any other course of action other than changing banks?
