do ebay use debt collecting agencies?

hi All

first post on the forum & just after some advice really.
i was scammed 20 months on ebay by a guy saying that the car part i sold him was faulty.it wasn't,i had tested it on my car,he sent it back, but it wasn't the part i sold him.i hadn't taken a picture of the serial number of it so was a bit stumpped as to how to prove it was wasn't mine.
he asked for a refund,i said it wasn't my part & a dispute ensued.
i did everything ebay asked, reported it as an online fraud, spoke at length on phone with them, went through all the correct channels, however all they said was that the part i sodl was faulty, even though it wasn't my part.
to say i was furious was an understatment.
my ebay account is frozen,i have over 300 positive feedback comments & am not out to rip off people.
as i had no money in my paypal account.ebay paid him out then mailed & then started ringing me to refund them.i flatly refused, told them to read all the e-mails regarding the case & basically to do one as i am not paying that money as i was scammed.
i am now getting e-mails threating me with debt collecters,i've tried to close my yahoo account to block them, but you wouldn't believe how hard that is to do.
do ebay use debt collectors or are they likely to pas it on to them,i am thinking they don't as it's gone on for so long now i think they already would have.
any advice would be appreciated

thanks

John

eBay do appoint debt collectors and in the past those collectors have been fined for using strong arm tactics, over and above their legal rights to frighten people into repaying.

If you are not going to settle this debt you will need to be sure that you never want to use eBay or PayPal again, and that no one closely connected with you wants to use it either. Then you need to make sure you are completely aware of the limitations of a debt collector, get over to the debt boards and get clarification of what they are allowed to do and what is considered harassment.

Just going from debt collectors, all debt collectors can do is annoy you, within reason. Only if Ebay take you to court would they be able to send anyone with any authority. It's highly unlikely it would ever go to court and if it did you'd have an option to put your side of the case.

You can apply in writing to the debt collector to stop emailing/phoning or any other method of contact. If you wish you can tell them you don't consider you owe the debt and that the only way you will discuss it is via a court.

A debt such as this cannot affect your credit rating unless it goes to court and you lose.

I no this is not eBay related but I can't see where I can post this question.
I have a load of little debts of around 10k I am currently a stay at home dad and struggling financially,

Therefore is the best option to get rid of my debt a debt relief order (dro) which will appear in credit file for 6 years or do I just keep paying off the debts I have which will take me about 4-5 years..

    Any help any appreciated

    Try the "Debt-Free Wannabee" section.

4th down from the top on the main page. You can't miss it.
